Who Are We?
Cloth Kisses is a family owned online business near beautiful Portland, Oregon. My name is Terri and I began this online store in order to share information about cloth diapers, and to be able to continue to stay at home with my 6 year old and 3 year old sons. My husband, Robert, is a great support and helps me out with the website details.
My Journey to Cloth
When I was pregnant with my first son, I knew that I wanted to use cloth diapers. The people that I told looked at me like I was crazy, and then told me that I wouldn't last long doing it. I was determined to make it work. I thought that the only way to do it was a diaper service. That's how my mom had done it when I was a baby and that is how I thought everyone must still do it. I signed up and was excited to get started.
When my son was born, everything went okay, although I felt bad about his huge cloth diapered bum. It just didn't look comfortable with all that bulk on a tiny baby. I felt that it was a pain to fold the prefolds, line them up in the wrap, velcro them on, and make sure everything was tucked in. Plus, the wraps became stained right away, so even when they were clean, they looked dirty. I really wanted to stick with it to prove people wrong though! I kept going until my son was about 4 months old. Then the diaper service raised their prices. I ended up not saving any money over buying disposables. My husband suggested washing our own. I thought he was crazy. That would be too messy, the prefolds would be stained, and it just seemed like so much work! Then the major leaking began. We had always had leaks. I had assumed that was a part of cloth diapers. But now they were constantly leaking. Ultimately, I admitted defeat and gave up.
A year later, my sister had a baby. She decided to use cloth diapers that she had bought on the internet. I became inspired again and found a whole world of cloth that I had not known had existed. I began by getting 2 pocket diapers, just to give them a try. They were nearly as thin as disposables, super easy to wash, didn't stain, didn't leak, and just so easy to use. I was hooked, and so happy to have my baby back in cloth. I bought more right away and my son loved his "soft diapers". I am now enjoying cloth diapering my second baby!
My Hope
My hope is that I can introduce families to cloth diapers, how easy they are to use, how affordable they end up being, and how much better for the environment they are.
